As of June 2023, a glass elevator will make the Colosseum accessible to all tourists. The visit to the symbolic monument of Rome, made up of four architectural orders, for a total height of 48,5 meters, will be facilitated by a project born from the synergy between the Colosseum Park and the Italian Cinema Orchestra.

Thanks to the panoramic lift, citizens and tourists can fully enjoy, without impediments, the majestic beauty of the Flavian amphitheater. In the name of an inclusive culture, the Colosseum finally and concretely becomes a World Heritage Site. The monument is now accessible to visitors with mobility difficulties, thanks to an elevation system built in full respect of the structure.
THEphysical and cognitive accessibility it is a prerequisite for a monument of the caliber of the Colosseum. As well as one of the missions of the Archaeological Park, which strives to welcome the public with aids for visits, through tactile maps, easy-to-read guides, adequate signage and routes designed to overcome architectural barriers.
The engineering work
The lift, developed for a height of 22 meters, allows you to reach the highest levels of the cavea, more precisely the intermediate gallery between the second and third levels. The self-supporting system, resting on the ancient masonry inside the arch XXVII, is made up of a cabin in glass, a corten structure and a series of metal screens. The panoramic lift allows you to enjoy an unprecedented view of the monument, thanks to the transparency of the glass, overcoming the obstacle of the 100 steep steps that lead to the intermediate gallery.
How to book?
The visits with the glass lift are scheduled starting from June, seven days a week, at a particularly suggestive time, between 7.30 and 9 in the morning. More information on how to visit will soon be available at the following link: https://colosseo.it/biglietti/early-morning-ascensore-panoramico/.
