The magnificent Duomo di Massimiliano Fuksas stop of the Naples metro is about to open.
A few months of waiting and in July 2021 in Naples the new Duomo station of the city subway will be opened.
The grandiose project signed by the architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas includes a glass roof that encompasses art, archeology and architecture.
In fact, in Piazza Nicola Amore there will be a large transparent dome made of glass and corten steel that will make this work unique.
In addition to being functional for the city's "underground" traffic, the subway will also be a museum that will allow you to see the remains of the Roman temple found during the excavations in 2004.
The concept behind the project for the Duomo stop of the Naples metro is “an astronaut's walk”, as Fuksas defined it.
Those who access the structure will be able to go underground - the subway platforms will be 40 meters deep - experiencing a particular journey through a series of suggestive backlit and carved steel panels that change color depending on the times of the day and the external weather conditions. The flooring and stairs are in travertine while the exit staircase is in lava stone.
