Let's discover Luma Arles, a steel and glass structure

The Luma Arles creative campus turned one.
It was designed by Frank O. Gehry at the Parc des Ateliers in the city of Arles, in the heart of Provence.

Central and spectacular element of the project is the “Luma” tower, 15.000 square meters and a winding geometric structure finished with 11.000 stainless steel panels and glass panels.

Its casing evokes the geological formations of the Alpilles portrayed by Van Gogh in his famous one "Starry Night”While its layout is inspired by the Roman amphitheater of Arles.
At the base of the tower there are seven floors that house the foundation's offices, studios, laboratories and, on the top floor, a single panoramic terrace and a bar. It is a real circular crown made with glass panels, which wants to remember the Roman amphitheater of Arles.

The entire "Parc des Ateliers" is a former industrial site in Arles, the aim of which is to provide artists with the opportunity to experiment also in close collaboration with other artists, curators, scientists, innovators and the public: a large experimental cultural complex in the south of France.

The project also includes a public park by architect Bas Smets to connect the Parc des Ateliers with the city. A garden with plants and flowers of the region designed to mitigate the impact of the mistral and summer temperatures.

The opening program of Luma Arles includes the exhibition of over 45 artists. In the coming months the structure will host works by the following masters: Ólafur Elíasson, Koo Jeong A, Kapwani Kiwanga, Helen Marten, Pierre Huyghe, Carsten Höller, Philippe Parreno and Rirkrit Tiravanija and many others.
