The Italian Technology Awards IN OCMI-OTG

On Wednesday 18 February 2023 OCMI-OTG had the pleasure of welcoming a group of students and professors selected for the Italian Technology Awards to its headquarters in Milan.
The ITA program, supported by the ICE agency, is dedicated to the most deserving students who have distinguished themselves in studies and research dedicated to glass in its various types and applications in the most prestigious American universities.
The meeting in OCMI-OTG stood out for the peculiarity of the sector in which the company operates, the processing of the borosilicate glass tube aimed at the production of containers for pharmaceutical use such as vials and bottles, therefore a niche sector in the field of machinery applied to the hollow glass industry.
After a brief introduction dedicated to the history and corporate structure of OCMI-OTG which presents itself as a multinational group with production sites in France, Spain, India and a Sales Office in China, the students were able to learn about the composition of the complete lines for the of vials and bottles starting from the loading of the glass tube up to the canning of the finished container passing through the hot forming and the various post-forming phases.
OCMI-OTG also illustrated the significant implications of the Covid-19 pandemic on the pharmaceutical glass sector with the growth in demand for borosilicate glass containers for the supply of vaccines, in particular vials. This prompted OCMI to develop and market a new production line for vials, fully automated and complete with product quality inspection systems in the various processing stages.
During the meeting, the OCMI-OTG staff also mentioned the technologies offered through its division dedicated to "tableware" glass which includes machinery for the production and finishing of soda-lime or crystal glass goblets, tumblers, pitchers, mugs , dishes and other household items, as well as the possibility of supplying “turnkey” factories for the production of glass-blocks and insulators for high-voltage lines.
The visit ended with a visit to the OCMI-OTG production area where the students were able to view a complete line for the production of vials and various equipment under construction.
