TheItalian Glass Weeks: the passing of the baton is a journey into Venetian glass art

The Milanese week of TheItalian Glass Weeks. And Milan has given the stage to the other co-protagonist of the kermesse: Venice, not without a suggestive, yet symbolic, passing of the baton, which confirmed theunity of purpose andeclectic synergy between the world of glass in the Lombard capital and that of the Venetian capital.

The real handover took place in one of the reference places for the Venetian week (scheduled from 17 to 25 September): Loredan Palace, more precisely in the Sala delle Adunanze. The Palazzo is in fact the Venice Hub of The Italian Glass Weeks, where the works of Italian and foreign artists, over 35, are exhibited, carefully selected by a scientific committee of specialists, professionals and experts in the world of glass and its manufacturing.

The tour then continued at The Italian's second hub Glass Weekknows Venice: Giustinian Lolin Palace, for an exhibition that proposes the projects of 20 young artists and designers under 35, both Italian and international, who will have the opportunity to be candidates for the Autonomous Residency Prize.

The tour was enhanced by a stop at the exhibition "Venini: Light 1921-1985", At "The Glass Rooms", on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, where the activity of the famous furnace in the field of lighting is told, showing some of the most representative examples. For the occasion, two wonderful installations were presented: the famous "Velario" built in 1951 for the roof of Palazzo Grassi and a homage to Carlo Scarpa, with the reconstruction of the monumental chandelier with polychrome polyhedra.

The afternoon continued at Murano Glass Museum for the exhibition “Tony Cragg. Silicon Dioxide ", curated by Berengo Studio, in collaboration with the Venice Civic Museums Foundation. The exhibition reproduces the most significant stages of the English artist's career, with six assemblages, historical large-scale works where Cragg juxtaposes objects and accumulates them in small groups. The painting offered by the selection of sculptures on display faithfully reproduces Cragg's artistic vision and his unique ability to communicate through glass, enhancing its intrinsic geometries.

The evening ended with a suggestive dinner in the Venice Lagoon.

Before returning to Milan on Monday 19 September, the group was accompanied to the Orsoni Furnace, the only one left in Venice where people still work with live fire. The visit was an opportunity to discover the ancient and wonderful art of mosaic in the lagoon city and the composition of the various phases of the processing of materials such as gold and enamels, before reaching the realization of the mosaic tiles.
