Palazzo Giureconsulti: touchpoint of the Milanese week of The Italian Glass Weeks

Five days separate us from the opening day of TheItalian Glass Weeks, the main international event that Italy dedicates to industrial, artistic and design glass. The kermesse, staged from 10 to 25 September between Milan and Venice, was born from the merger of Vision Milan Glass Week e TheVenice Glass Week, two events committed to raising the awareness of institutions, businesses and consumers about the excellence of glass at a global level.

Membership of the official program of the 2022 United Nations International Year of Glass gives Milan and Venice the title of European (and probably world) glass capitals, in the course of such an important year for our protagonist.

    A symbol of Milan

The headquarters of the first edition of The Italian Glass Weeks in the Lombard capital will be the Giurisconsult Palace: the oldest congress center in Milan, which for 400 years has represented the heart of the social, economic and cultural life of the city.
It is one of the most elegant, iconic and central locations in Milan; overlooking Piazza Mercanti, it is in fact a few steps from the Duomo.

    Historical notes

Palazzo Giureconsulti, built between 1562 and 1654, was designed by Vincent Seregni, the director of the Fabbrica del Duomo and the fortifications of the Castle, commissioned by the Milanese pope Pius IV, to accommodate the "College of Noble Doctors".
The ancient tower was incorporated into the new building, becoming the civic tower, with the task of announcing the news of the city in real time, thanks to the call of its bell, replaced today by a clock.
Palazzo Giureconsulti, precursor of the numerous congress centers in Milan, has hosted since 1809 the first stock exchange, while since 1911 it has been owned by the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce.

    The extent of the restoration

The restoration, completed in spring, restored the splendor of the facade of Palazzo Giureconsulti, bringing to light the original color of the Adda log and the Viggiù stone. But also the interiors have been studied and redesigned to meet the needs of a modern city in continuous technological evolution.
Thanks also to this renovation, Palazzo Giureconsulti continues to present itself as place of meeting and exchange for the Milanese communities, committed to increasing theattractiveness of the Milanese city.

    A meaningful frame

The role of the Palace therefore does not diminish over time. For this reason the choice made by the organizers of The Italian Glass Weeks is anything but random. Palazzo Giureconsulti is in fact not a simple location, but represents the touchpoint that will promote both the Lombard capital and the undoubted prestige of glass, be it industrial, design or artistic.
