OCMI-OTG produces machinery for working hollow glass by hot forming. The flames used for this molding process are, in the standard version of the moulders, fueled by natural gas or LPG.
The OCMI moulders have been modified to work without natural gas but powered 100% with hydrogen combustion.
The tests carried out with this modification have shown that the quality of the final product remains the same with a small reduction in the degree of product defect.
OCMI provides for the supply of a specific set of parts necessary for the conversion of the fuel system if the customer decides to switch from gas to hydrogen.
Considering the large number of lines installed by OCMI around the world, which amounts to over 1500 units, and the current constant growth in fuel costs, there is an awareness that many customers may need alternatives to feed their lines in order to reduce costs related to energy supply.
OCMI is currently in contact with various important multinational companies that already have hydrogen generators installed in their factories. In these realities it is already possible to work with a mix of hydrogen and gas in order to minimize the modification of the plants.
Obviously the problem occurs above all in medium-small production realities which are generally less equipped for such changes, therefore solutions are being studied which reduce the amount of investment in such contexts.
OCMI firmly believes in hydrogen and sustainability and for this very reason it is putting all its experience in the hollow glass sector into perfecting this solution.
