On the occasion of Vision Milan Glass Week, Memphis is happy to present a selection of glass from the historic collection Memphis Milan, designed in the early 80s by Ettore Sottsass, Marco Zanini and Michele De Lucchi. The vases, with shapes and colors with a strong visual impact, are made according to the ancient traditions of the Murano glass masters.
MEMPHIS
The Memphis Company was founded in 1981 to produce the products designed by Ettore Sottsass and by a group of young architects and designers gathered around him Memphis was born as a laboratory for the development of new design ideas and soon became a real cultural phenomenon. Ettore Sottsass and Barbara Radice as a reference for the group, Memphis design has acquired a new expressive concept linked to new forms, new materials and new patterns, has redesigned the habits around the idea of living, revolutionizing the logic of the design world . The Memphis movement has thus become the almost mythical symbol of the “New Design”. The last collection of the Memphis group was designed in 1988.
POST-DESIGN
It is the brand with which the Memphis Company produces the new collections. Conceived by Alberto Bianchi Albrici together with Ettore Sottsass, with the Post Design brand, in addition to the works of Sottsass, the collections of some of the most important authors on the international scene such as Johanna Grawunder, Pierre Charpin, Denis Santachiara, Nathalie Du Pasquier were also presented , George J.Sowden, Nanda Vigo, Alessandro Mendini, Markus Benesch, Alberto Biagetti, Giacomo Moor, Ron Arad and Richard Woods.
