Glass is really very versatile, an idea to recycle it this Christmas time: a great container for candles.
The candles are beautiful and as soon as they are lit they immediately create a magical atmosphere. They are a way to decorate your home or a small gift.
Making homemade candles is a great activity to do this season.
And even better if from a zero waste perspective, reducing waste and reusing some objects.
For our homemade candles you really need minimal equipment.
Soy wax, or the grounds of old candles, some essential oil to perfume them, wicks of rope or wood and of course many recycled glass jars.
Glass is a beautiful, practical and heat-resistant material that can also be used outside the kitchen.

Its transparency makes it perfect for creating small decorations such as homemade candles. In glass jars, candles are impressive, they don't get dirty and don't need a candle holder.

In glass jars, preferably with an airtight lid, homemade candles last longer and keep the aromas intact. Homemade candles with soy wax
Making candles from scratch is a simple activity.
It is necessary to use pure soy wax, in tablets or drops.
It is melted in a bain-marie, over low heat, add a few drops of the essential oil you prefer to perfume it, then mix the mixture well.
Meanwhile, prepare the jar: place the wick on the bottom, using a little wax or a drop of hot glue to make it sit still.
To decorate our candle it is possible to insert some dried leaves or flowers.
To keep the wick in place, secure it at the top with a clothespin. If using wooden wicks, they simply need to be placed in the center of the jar.
Once melted, pour in the wax filling the jar to below the rim. Let it dry completely.
As soon as it has cooled down, the candle is ready for use.
