The sector of smartphone it is constantly evolving. Companies continuously design models and versions capable of intercepting the needs of buyers. And faced with an increasingly aware clientele and an almost saturated market, electronics companies are called upon to guarantee products that are reliable from many points of view. And the degree of reliability of a smartphone is also measured by resistance of its glass, or rather, from type of Gorilla Glass installed.
Heavier devices
To meet this need, Corning, a leading brand in the production of glasses for smartphones and mobile devices, has made the new one official Gorilla Glass Victus 2, an innovative generation of tempered glass, intended for implementation in mobile devices.
Corning has perfected its product to improve the resistance of the new generation of devices, whose weight (increased by 15%) and whose size (increased by 10%) strongly affect both the stress of the cover glass and the fragility of the device in the event of a bump or fall.
Challenging concrete
The new version of Gorilla Glass, which replaces the previous one dated 2020, maintains the already high performance in terms of scratch resistance unchanged and, thanks to an unprecedented composition of the glass, greatly improves drop protection, even those on rough surfaces such as concrete, the most widespread engineered material in the world.
And it was precisely the challenge with the hardness of the concrete that stimulated the research of the Corning team of scientists.
Formidable performance
In laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 withstood drops up to one meter on a concrete-replicating surface. A truly significant figure if we consider that the companies competing with Corning guarantee the resistance of their glasses for falls of up to half a meter.
In addition, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has withstood drop tests up to two meters on surfaces that replicate asphalt. Last but not least, it maintained up to four times the scratch resistance of competitor aluminosilicate.
According to Corning, smartphone manufacturers will be able to install Gorilla Glass Victus 2 starting from 2023. Which mobile phones and devices will be the first to secure the benefits of the American company's latest technological discovery?
