Furnishing solutions: how to exploit the atmospheres produced by frosted glass?

The full transparency of glass is not desirable in every context. Where a certain level of privacy must be guaranteed, it is appropriate to resort to satin finish, a process that allows you to generate a matt effect on the glass.
Today we are trying to figure out where to use frosted glass to decorate the interiors of apartments with elegance, without compromising the brightness of the rooms.

    The techniques

Frosted glass can be obtained using two techniques: etching and sandblasting. The first involves the use of hydrofluoric acid, which allows to corrode one or both sides of the slab subjected to treatment. In the case of acid etching, the glass plate can be immersed in the acid solution or the latter can be applied in gelatinous form on the surface, in order to obtain satin areas and shiny areas. The acid gradually alters the part of the glass it comes into contact with, generating more or less marked effects depending on the exposure time and the acid concentration.

La sandblasting provides for the use of a jet of sand, directed on the whole glass plate or on one side. This treatment can be applied to both transparent and colored glass and can be combined with other techniques (painting, enamelling, etc.) for the creation of artistic stained glass.

    Privacy and lighting

The opacity of the frosted glass is particularly appreciated for creating a fog effect, which protects privacy, without however blocking the passage of light. For this reason, it is widely used as a solution for shower cubicle and windows
The satin effect is particularly requested in the furniture world, through proposals of designer lighting, designed to create soft and enveloping atmospheres, thanks to the shielded effect, which transforms direct light into diffused light.

    Glass walls

Frosted glass also offers a wide range of furnishing opportunities in the creation of doors or partition windows, a new trend in interior decoration, which makes it possible to give rooms greater functionality and personality, and to obtain new environments, while maintaining spatial continuity, without resorting to masonry work. This translates into a subdivision of the rooms that does not compromise or hinder the diffusion of light.

    Numerous solutions

Doors, windows and glass partitions are not the only decorative elements that exploit the potential of frosted glass. This type of surface is in fact used for the decoration of rooms, through small ones objects and furnishings. In particular, sandblasted glass is a traditional element in the creation of vases, glasses and plates, as it gives the articles a warm and velvety sensation to the eye and to the touch.

Finally, the silky effect generated by the satin finish can be reproduced on the doors of the kitchen and living area, to create plays of light and shadow, in combination with the atmospheres produced by the internal lighting.
