Designer chandeliers illuminate Venice: a dialogue between contemporaneity and tradition

This year, make your Christmas holidays even more special with a stroll under the vaults of the Procuratie Vecchie in Piazza San Marco, illuminated by extraordinary artist chandeliers. The project Murano Lights Up the World has in fact promoted the creation of an unmissable installation that combines the magic of the Murano tradition with the contemporary creativity of international artists and designers.

    Some of the protagonists

The collaboration between designers and Murano craftsmen has given life to eleven unique chandeliers celebrating the art of glass, creating an unmissable urban exhibition that reveals all the expressive potential of glass, in an infinite dialogue between past and present.

Among the participants in the project, Kengo Kuma joined forces with Fornace Salviati to create of the Xe, a modular glass sculpture composed of perfectly interlocking rectangular shapes. The chandelier reflects the concept of “parcellization”, very dear to the Japanese architect, in which the work in its entirety is enhanced thanks to the interaction between its parts and its whole.

Designer Philippe Starck collaborated with Aristide Najean to produce Paintings, a chandelier that seems to be the fruit of a dream. The creation, supported by a floral motif, contains poetry and audacity, offering a visual experience that evokes a surreal world.

The dialogue between cultures is evident in Gust of wind, the chandelier signed by Kimiko Yoshida with Fornace Seguso Gianni Murano. Inspired by the colors of cherry blossoms, the piece blends oriental minimalism and Venetian richness in a balance of delicacy and splendor.

There is no shortage of bold experiments, such as those of the American Deborah Czeresko, who with the Fornace Massimiliano Schiavon Art Team has replaced the arms of the chandelier with colored snakes. From their tongues, the light spreads with a surprising and dynamic effect.

Murano Lights Up the World It is not just an aesthetic experience, but a journey through the creative genius that makes Venice an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Walking under these masterpieces means rediscovering the charm of glass as a living material, capable of telling stories and transporting the spectator to a dimension where beauty knows no time.
You have until March 4, 2024 to be enchanted by these works.
