Close the Glass Loop welcomes a new member to the partnership

Close the Glass Loop, the European partnership that plans the responsible management of glass packaging and supports the value of recycling, is enriched with a new member.
The industrial platform, launched in 2020 by European Container Glass Federation (FEVE), counted among its foundations the following national entities: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

    Close the Glass Loop Netherlands

The Netherlands is the first new country to join the partnership since its foundation. The launch meeting of the new platform Close the Glass Loop Netherlands was held at the Ardagh Group factory in Dongen on 29 February.
The event represented a strategic meeting opportunity for all the entities involved in the Dutch glass recycling value chain.

    The protagonists

Adeline Farrelly, General Secretary of FEVE, proudly celebrates the entry into the partnership of Close the Glass Loop Netherlands, the result of that bottom-up approach which has always been one of the key policies of the Federation, together with attention to the specificity of every regional reality. “We are convinced that the long tradition of glass collection and recycling in the Netherlands will be useful to other partners. This exchange of good practices represents a key part of our work to improve sustainability throughout the glass packaging value chain, in Europe and in the world,” concludes Farrelly.

Joost Laven, president of Stichting Duurzaam Verpakkingsglas, underlines the crucial role of Close the Glass Loop in enhancing the collection of glass cullet. Greater collaboration between the different members of the partnership could in fact affect the quantity of material collected. By doing so, the glass cullet becomes available again for industrial production, avoiding wasteful waste of raw materials.

The entry of the Netherlands into the Close the Glass Loop partnership strengthens the belief in reaching the 90% collection rate, set for 2030.
