From one of the anecdotes that most fascinated fans from all over the world was born a glassmaking prodigy. We are talking about the last bottle of Chanel N°5 perfume, a timeless icon whose popularity was relaunched in the 50s by an unforgettable response from Marilyn Monroe. “What do you wear to bed?” asked the Time reporter. “Just a drop of Chanel N°5” the actress retorted.
It is precisely from this evocative quote that the limited edition bottle of Chanel N°5 L'Eau, which recalls that much envied drop of perfume due to its rounded shape and ergonomics.
Sylvie Legastelois, responsible for the company's packaging and design, summarized the aesthetics and symbolism of the bottle well: a perfume wrapped in a drop of glass.
“A pebble smoothed by water, a ray of light captured in its simplest form” – this is how Cosmopolitan describes it – Chanel N°5 L'Eau is the cult object of the moment.
The geometry is both solid and delicate, combined with the ethereal transparency of the glass, pairs perfectly with the updated and fresh version of a timeless fragrance. The bottle is the result of the collaboration between Chanel, Koa Glass and Technoglass.
For the technical development and production of the packaging were necessary 18 months of work, along which Koa Glass created the bottle in blown glass, which contains 15% recycled PCR glass, while for the cap Technoglass chose to use pressed glass.
As reported by Sylvie Legastelois, the major challenges for the development of the packaging of Chanel N°5 L'Eau were linked to the correct alignment of the cap and the metal ring on the neck and above all to the oval shape of the bottle. In fact, suppliers had to develop a special process to support the bottle, which, unlike flat-bottomed containers, could not be placed on the glassworks conveyor belt.
