The International Glass Commission (ICG), the Community of Glass Associations (CGA) and ICOM-Glass are promoting 2022 as the United Nations International Year of Glass to highlight its scientific, economic and cultural roles and celebrate several anniversaries. This exciting journey began in 2018. We have just started the activity of dissemination and coordination of thousands of activities all over the planet: congresses and seminars, industrial fairs and glass schools will coexist with art exhibitions, books, social media, scientific, technical and general interest magazines. Graduated in Sociology of Mass Communications and member of the Research Group on Mass Communication of the University of Padua, visiting professor at the Glasgow Media Unit. Graduated in Classical Literature, specialized in Classical Archeology and PhD in Archaeology. Since 1994 you have worked at the Directorate General for Culture of the Lombardy Region, where you deal with regional policies for the support and recognition of museums. Member of the VICARTE research unit, FCT-NOVA, he is the author of numerous publications on archaeological glass, particularly in the Iberian Peninsula. She is Chair of ICOM Glass (2019-2022) and member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Committee of the AIHV. She is especially interested in the study of provenance of medieval and early modern glass in Portugal and in the valorisation of glass as a cultural heritage.

Marina Uboldi, AIHV

Archaeologist, graduate and specialized at the Catholic University of Milan, she holds a PhD on "Glass in Milan in the Roman age (2005st century BC - 2020th century AD): shapes, production, circulation". For several years he held the role of Conservator of the Archaeological Civic Museum of Como. Member since XNUMX of the board of directors of the AIHV Italian National Committee, since XNUMX she has become its President. The Valdarno, the glass, its factories. Between memory and future
Press conference and public meeting to present and build with the inhabitants, the industries, the traders of the territory, the program of initiatives that will animate, until September, the territory of San Giovanni Valdarno (Arezzo) on the occasion of the International Year of Glass. An intense program of conferences, exhibitions and itineraries in the territory and its factories that will close with the opening of the exhibition “For a museum of the territory. Glass in Valdarno. History, memory, future ".

A few months after the acquisition by the State of the entire collection, for the purposes of protection and enhancement, a selection of forty-five objects from the Strada di Scaldasole Collection is for the first time on display to the public in the rooms of the National Archaeological Museum of Lomellina in Vigevano. The collection, formed by Antonio Strada (1904-1968), collects more than 260 artifacts belonging to a chronological span that extends over 18 centuries, from prehistory to the Lombard age. The fulcrum are the glass artifacts of the Roman age, among which the very rare cup signed by Aristeas, datable to the second quarter of the first century AD, stands out. C., a real unicum in terms of quality and state of conservation.

MILANOVETRO -35 - III edition | Exhibition of the finalist works of the international competition of artistic glass and design

The Museums of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan in collaboration with the collector Sandro Pezzoli, who has always been a promoter of initiatives related to glass, have been organizing the International Artistic and Design Glass Competition "MilanoVetro -2018" since 35, aimed at young artists who have not completed 35 years of age.
The competition, which takes place every two years, aims to enhance the innovative use of glass material both in the artistic field and in contemporary design and the choice of the city of Milan and the Castello Sforzesco intends to reaffirm the historical continuity and centrality of the Milanese capital in the creation and exhibition of glass works.
Among the works presented in the competition in this third edition, 31 finalist works have been selected, which will be exhibited from 9 March to 19 June 2022 in the prestigious Sala della Balla of the Castello Sforzesco, in dialogue with the collection of contemporary glass set up in the adjacent Sala Castellana .
The awards ceremony will take place in Sala della Balla on Wednesday 9 March at 18.30 pm. The winning work will become part of the Sforza Castle Collections.

Show Glass. Italian jewels between '800 and' 900 curated by Bianca Cappello and Augusto Panini

Glass, kaleidoscopic and multiform, has always been appreciated because it is capable of taking on the appearance and colors of nature and also of going further, transforming itself into something that tends to be new, the result of the ingenuity and creative capacity of the human being. Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, following the industrialization process, glass diversified its identity: on the one hand a product of the finest and highest craftsmanship subject to technical and artistic experimentation for luxury and refined jewels; on the other, an industrial item for the general public used in low-cost jewelery.
Through a meticulous research and a careful selection of over 300 pieces including designer jewels and period documents, the event reveals the fascinating evolution of Italian style, costume and society over the last two centuries.
On display about 300 jewels, objects, drawings, photos and documents, all rare, unique and unpublished pieces, coming from prestigious private collections and from the archives of the Bijou Museum of Casalmaggiore. It will be possible to admire long and colorful sautoirs from the beginning of the century, Deco-style bracelets of millefiori murrine, jewels in Roman micro mosaic made for the Grand Tour, large multi-strand necklaces and collars made with tiny beads to match the sartorial cocktail dresses of the Sixties. It will be possible to be fascinated by the numerous bouquet earrings of the fifties, by the bijoux of the flower children inspired by Native Americans, by the large crystals of the eighties, and also by the more experimental creations of the great designers and artists of the end of the millennium.

Special attention is also paid to environmental sustainability thanks to the ad hoc set-up with recycled glass by the Iranian designer Sogand Nobahar.

To celebrate the important donation of the precious Cappagli Serretti collection (117 glasses), the Civic Museums of Ancient Art of Bologna, in collaboration with the Civic Museums Foundation of Venice, in particular with the Murano Glass Museum, are organizing a curated exhibition by Mark Gregory D'Apuzzo, Massimo Medica and Mauro Stocco. "Wonders of ancient glass in Milan" - Series of conferences

"Wonders of ancient glass in Milan" is a series of conferences held by experts from various sectors, on the dates of 8-15-29 November (17.30 pm) in the Conference Room of the Archaeological Museum of Milan, via Nirone 7. From archeology to jewellery, from iconography to restoration, the public will be accompanied in the discovery of daily and funerary habits in Milan in the first centuries AD, of the techniques for making ancient glass, of the symbolic meanings and of some iconography of glass gems.

Event organized by the Study Center for Cultural Heritage by Veronica Ciffa and Maria Beatrice Ferrarotti Fortuna Vitrea was born from the will of the Study Center for Cultural Heritage to create a network of artisans and professionals in the cultural sector, aimed at the protection and enhancement of the millenary history of Murano glass art. Arman Avetikyan, stylist of Froy, an experimental knitwear brand and creative project, will present a reinterpretation of Murano glass art by creating tailored garments that combine the expressive potential of yarn and artistic glass. A dialogue between the creativity of the stylist and the technical skills of the master glassmaker Matteo Tagliapietra and Riccardo Todesco. EXHIBITION: Editi-Unediti: drawing 'in glass'

On the occasion of the International Year Of Glass and of the first edition of 'The Italian Glass Weeks' (Milan, 10-18 September, and Venice, 17-25 September) the Glass Study Center of the Giorgio Cini Foundation joins the already ongoing rich cultural program, once again underlining the importance of preserving both historical and digital archives. Thematic guided tours

On the occasion of the GEP - European Heritage Days, Saturday 24 September, the National Archaeological Museum of Valle Camonica in Cividate Camuno organized an evening of guided tours dedicated to glass.
For the UN, 2022 is the international year of glass, a material that has a leading role in our society from a technological, scientific, economic, environmental, historical and artistic point of view.

Symposium

With Venice Glass Week, of which the Fondazione Musei Civici is one of the founders, the continuation of the "Pearls 2.0" project is expected, which will materialize in the involvement of the main national and international representatives of the most important museums where significant and prestigious examples of pearls are kept. In this way, a sharing of information and knowledge related to these precious glass objects is hoped for. Still in the course of Venice Glass Week a study day will be organized dedicated to the theme “What's the future of glass?” so that new perspectives, both creative and productive, can be outlined for glass.

With the "Lagoon Glass Committee", chaired by Margherita Tirelli, of which the Civic Museums Foundation is an active part, we intend to address the theme of archaeological, medieval and Renaissance glass, found following historical excavations in the lagoon, also trying to focus on which effective methods can be implemented for a census and an accurate cataloging of the immense collection of these finds now preserved at the Lazzaretto Nuovo. Therefore, the planned action, which intends to involve the competent and reference Superintendency, will be a meeting dedicated to glass as a lagoon archaeological heritage and to its study that will certainly lead to clarifying the production phases, the origin of the raw materials and the circulation of technical - executive information. The objective of the Study Day will therefore be to take stock of the current state of the art, presenting for the first time jointly and comparing vitreous finds partly already known and partly unpublished, in order to create the conditions for begin to tackle the systematic study of the entire Venetian archaeological complex.

ATIV, Italian Association of Glass Technologists organizes every year one General Congress and some schools on particular aspects of Glass technology. Next year it will be the 34th edition. On the occasion of the IYOG we wish to have a wider attendance including not only Technicians, but also Scientists and Experts on Art and History so that they can exchange experiences and skills for a better comprehension of the Glass as an Old and Ever-Young Material. The Conference language is English. The Venue is Parma, a beautiful small town located in Northern Italy, rich in History, Art and Music and well known for its food. Festival Cosa Sarà

TheItalian Glass Weeks is the synergy between “The Venice Glass Week"and "Vision Milan Glass Week”, the festival that will take place in Milan and Venice from the 10th to the 25th September 2022 in order to internationally highlight the uniqueness of the Italian glass and to celebrate the UN International Year of Glass in Italy.

Science Festival - Genoa Science Festival - Workshops and special event

The Genoa Science Festival hosts 2 workshops and a special event based on glass for the International Year of Glass:
the first workshop “From the sand to the Sainte-Chapelle” is for primary and secondary school, focused on science and art of glass from the Etruscan period till today. How they produced glass and how we recicle today in order to reduce the energetic expenses. The workshop is made in partnership between the Univesrity of Genoa, Department of chemistry, the Museo dell'Arte Vetraria di Altare, the consortium for glass recicle Co.Re.Ve and the Association Festival della Scienza (Genoa).
the second workshop "Light and glass: a thousand-year history" by OPTICA EPS SPIE Student Chapters of Politecnico di Milano, where it will be presented a special technique, femtosecond laser micromachining, that is used to produce a special glass in order to investigate the light .
the third special event “L'arte di moldare il vetro” is realized by an artist from the Bormioli family that produces glass objects with the borosilicate glass, the common pyrex.
