Show Glass. Italian jewels between '800 and' 900 curated by Bianca Cappello and Augusto Panini

Glass, kaleidoscopic and multiform, has always been appreciated because it is capable of taking on the appearance and colors of nature and also of going further, transforming itself into something that tends to be new, the result of the ingenuity and creative capacity of the human being. Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, following the industrialization process, glass diversified its identity: on the one hand a product of the finest and highest craftsmanship subject to technical and artistic experimentation for luxury and refined jewels; on the other, an industrial item for the general public used in low-cost jewelery.
Through a meticulous research and a careful selection of over 300 pieces including designer jewels and period documents, the event reveals the fascinating evolution of Italian style, costume and society over the last two centuries.
On display about 300 jewels, objects, drawings, photos and documents, all rare, unique and unpublished pieces, coming from prestigious private collections and from the archives of the Bijou Museum of Casalmaggiore. It will be possible to admire long and colorful sautoirs from the beginning of the century, Deco-style bracelets of millefiori murrine, jewels in Roman micro mosaic made for the Grand Tour, large multi-strand necklaces and collars made with tiny beads to match the sartorial cocktail dresses of the Sixties. It will be possible to be fascinated by the numerous bouquet earrings of the fifties, by the bijoux of the flower children inspired by Native Americans, by the large crystals of the eighties, and also by the more experimental creations of the great designers and artists of the end of the millennium.

Special attention is also paid to environmental sustainability thanks to the ad hoc set-up with recycled glass by the Iranian designer Sogand Nobahar.

Show ROSANNA TOSO. WOMAN. GLASS. DESIGN.

In collaboration with the Fratelli Toso Collection, the ROSANNA TOSO - Donna Vetro Design exhibition opens on 21 April at the Palazzo del Broletto in Pavia: a journey of 40 glass works, selected from among the most representative works of Rosanna Toso, at twenty years since her death, an independent woman, talented artist and designer. A woman who has never accepted any compromise and who has successfully found space in a world that was, perhaps still is, so strongly masculine.
The exhibition is completed by numerous contents made available thanks to augmented reality: even the works that come from the past can speak of modern, they can be told in a different and contemporary way. A bridge between past, present and future.

The exhibition, a choral homage to opera, conceived on the occasion of the International Year of Glass 2022, begins its journey in Venice at the Casa di Carlo Goldoni, and then continues to Milan, Naples, Madrid-Alcorcon and Segovia. The exhibition intends to highlight the belonging to the Italianity common to both arts, glass and opera, paying homage on the one hand to Venice, home of blown glass but also of the opera house that came to life here in 1637, and on the other in Milan, where La Scala, the most prestigious opera house, is located. If Venice remains to this day the reference point for the artistic production of glass, even contemporary, as the Murano Glass Museum documents well, Milan also offers prestigious contemporary artistic resources in the field of glass, in particular in the collections of the Castello Sforzesco , in which there are works by numerous artists, including Joan Crous, Silvia Levenson, Aristide Najean, Laura Panno, Lucio Perna, Matteo Seguso, Camillo Triulzi, Violetta Uboldi, all present in the exhibition. The exhibition will be accompanied by a volume (Marsilio Editori Venezia) which will host tales of the artists and historical-critical contributions, the result of reflections by musicologists, set designers, directors, archaeologists, art historians, design historians, inspired by the theme of the exhibition itself. The exhibition, hosted by the MUVE Foundation, is promoted by the Lagoon Glass Committee and is curated by Sandro Pezzoli.

Exhibition: Paintings under glass by Dady Orsi (1917-2003)

The exhibition presents a selection of paintings under glass made by Dady Orsi (1917-2003) in the period of his creative maturity between the XNUMXs and XNUMXs. The exhibition itinerary focuses on one of the favorite subjects in Dady Orsi's painting - The rooms, real wunderkammer, in which the real world of the artist - his home, his objects - and the visionary one, transfigured by his creativity, they translate into intriguing and engaging images. These are sometimes quite small plates, others, however, of more significant dimensions, painted with acrylic colors with a particular technique that involves painting in reverse.

Webinar

Heaven is a Place on Earth: the significance of glass from the material to the imaginary is a cycle of webinars aimed at deepening the current knowledge on the above topics through a strongly trans-disciplinary approach: from the study of the materiality of the object to the understanding of its intellectual elaboration and symbolic values.

The webinars will be aimed at deepening the knowledge about the meanings of the glass window in time, space and history of the imagination. The main scope is to discuss and evaluate the state of knowledge on the subject through contributions from different disciplinary fields, to outline a synergistic methodological approach to fill the main gaps highlighted.

Symposium

With Venice Glass Week, of which the Fondazione Musei Civici is one of the founders, the continuation of the "Pearls 2.0" project is expected, which will materialize in the involvement of the main national and international representatives of the most important museums where significant and prestigious examples of pearls are kept. In this way, a sharing of information and knowledge related to these precious glass objects is hoped for. Still in the course of Venice Glass Week a study day will be organized dedicated to the theme “What's the future of glass?” so that new perspectives, both creative and productive, can be outlined for glass.

With the "Lagoon Glass Committee", chaired by Margherita Tirelli, of which the Civic Museums Foundation is an active part, we intend to address the theme of archaeological, medieval and Renaissance glass, found following historical excavations in the lagoon, also trying to focus on which effective methods can be implemented for a census and an accurate cataloging of the immense collection of these finds now preserved at the Lazzaretto Nuovo. Therefore, the planned action, which intends to involve the competent and reference Superintendency, will be a meeting dedicated to glass as a lagoon archaeological heritage and to its study that will certainly lead to clarifying the production phases, the origin of the raw materials and the circulation of technical - executive information. The objective of the Study Day will therefore be to take stock of the current state of the art, presenting for the first time jointly and comparing vitreous finds partly already known and partly unpublished, in order to create the conditions for begin to tackle the systematic study of the entire Venetian archaeological complex.
